Are ear ossicle modifications possible?

In the fictional, "metal gear solid" series, they have possibly fictitious technology implanted in the ear ossicles that allow audio to be transmitted to the wearer without the use of headphones and nobody else can hear the transmissions. I've long wondered if this was at all possible or just the product of an overactive imagination.
